Gellar, Prinze Say, 'I Do' in Mexico

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar and actor Freddie Prinze Jr. were married over the Labor Day weekend at a private ceremony in Mexico, their publicist said on Tuesday.

It was the first marriage for both Gellar, 25, and Prinze, 26, who began dating about two years ago and co-starred together in the summer hit film "Scooby-Doo." They also appeared together in the hit 1997 horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

Few details were released about the ceremony, which took place on Sunday, other than that the bride wore Vera Wang and the groom wore a custom-made linen suit.

But according to the cover story from the upcoming issue of Us Weekly magazine, the couple tied the knot in Jalisco, Mexico, south of Puerto Vallarta, in a private ceremony attended by 60 guests, including actress Shannen Doherty ("Beverly Hills, 90210," "Charmed") and actor Dule Hill from the NBC political drama "The West Wing".

The nondenominational wedding was officiated by Hollywood choreographer Adam Shankman, and guests dined on filet mignon and lobster tail, the magazine said.

One big hitch was a thunderstorm that forced the couple to move the wedding, which had been planned for outdoors, inside the $3,000-per-night Sol de Oriente (Sun of the East) rental house, Us said.

Gellar is best known for her TV role on the WB and UPN drama as the karate-kicking enemy of the undead in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Prinze's credits include the films "Head Over Heels" and "Down to You." His father, Freddie Prinze, starred in the 1970s sitcom "Chico and the Man" and committed suicide when the younger Prinze was an infant.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - First came "Scooby-Doo," now comes "I do" for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

The couple, who appeared together in this summer's talking-dog comedy "Scooby-Doo," were wed Sunday at an undisclosed location in Mexico, their spokeswoman, Leslie Sloane, said Tuesday.

The bride wore a Vera Wang gown and the groom sported a custom-made linen suit, she said. A group of friends and family attended the ceremony, which was kept a closely guarded secret from the public.

Gellar, star of the UPN series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" announced the engagement at her 24th birthday party in April 2001.

The couple met on the set of the 1997 teen slasher flick, "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

They dated for nearly a year before becoming engaged, and are signed to star in a sequel to the "Scooby-Doo" adaptation, in which Prinze, 26, played brawny, mystery-solver Fred and Gellar portrayed sweetheart sleuth Daphne.

Vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar married Scooby pal Freddie Prinze Jr. Sunday in Mexico, publicists for the couple confirmed Tuesday.

For those who must know such things, the bride wore Vera Wang; the groom, a custom-made linen suit. The guest list consisted of friends and family. (Sorry, no bloodsuckers allowed--although an agent or two might have slipped past security.)

Officially, this is the first wedding for both Gellar, 25, and Prinze, 26.

But, according to E! Online gossip columnist Ted Casablanca, this could be the second time around for the twosome. Casablanca reported the two tied the knot back in June in one of Las Vegas' insta-wedding houses, the Little White Wedding Chapel. ("It was a midday ceremony," the officiant said at the time, "but I have to respect their privacy. I can't give out all the details.") Even the pair's frequent costar, Matthew Lillard, referred to the couple as "newlyweds" while doing press for Scooby-Doo.

However, Gellar and Prinze never confirmed those nuptials and their rep denied the two had sealed the deal--at least until today.

Gellar, linked previously to Crossing Jordan's Jerry O'Connell, announced her engagement to Prinze, son of late Chico & the Man comic Freddie Prinze Sr., in April 2001.

The two first costarred together in the 1997 teen scream flick, I Know What You Did Last Summer. They hooked up on screen again this summer as Mystery Machine mates in Scooby-Doo.

Gellar, the Emmy-winning ex-soap star, is heading into her seventh season as the titular vamp fighter in UPN's Buffy the Vampire Slayer ( news - Y! TV).

Prinze's next project--aside from learning how to be a hubby, natch--is providing vocals for the animated Cinderella flick Happily N'Ever After. His leading lady? Ms. Gellar, of course.

Scooby Doo actress Sarah Michelle Gellar and her co-star in the film Freddie Prinze junior tied the knot in a hush hush ceremony atop a Mexican cliff top on Sunday, the star’s spokeswomen revealed on Tuesday.

Sarah, 25, who met her 26-year-old husband-to-be five years ago on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer, made her vows in a Vera Wang gown, while the groom wore a bespoke suit in linen. Family and friends were invited to share the happy couple’s nuptials at a secluded estate near the Mexican resort of Puerto Vallarta, the exact location of which was kept a closely guarded secret.

The couple announced their engagement in April last year and earlier this summer rumours abounded that they had wed in a Las Vegas ceremony. In their most recent collaboration, the successful Scooby-Doo vehicle, Sarah stars as sleuth Daphne while her intended plays her clean-cut companion Fred.

Sarah, who first came to fame in the cult TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, has had a series of roles in movies such as Scream 2 and Cruel Intentions.
