Zoinks! Gellar and Prinze Engaged
There's just something about Scooby Snacks that fuels the fire of eternal
romance.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and longtime boyfriend
Freddie Prinze Jr. are making Scooby-Doo together, and now it looks
like they're going to make their future together: The couple has gotten
engaged, their publicist confirmed Tuesday.
Access Hollywood reports that the betrothal
occurred Friday and was announced over Easter weekend at a joint birthday
party for Gellar (who turned 24 Saturday) and her ICM agent, Eddy Yablans.
For inquiring minds, the ring was reportedly designed by Cathy Waterman,
who's done monster-size rocks for the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Meryl Streep
and Meg Ryan. No wedding date has been set.
This will mark the first trip down the aisle for
Gellar--the blond, bloodsucker-thrashing star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
(news - Y! TV)--and Prinze, the 25-year-old star of every teeny-bopper
romance movie made since 1998 (including She's All That, Down to
You and Head Over Heels).
The twosome has been an item since 1997, when they
met while filming the teen slasher pic I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Gellar and Prinze are currently shooting the
big-screen version of Scooby-Doo in Australia. Prinze has gone bleach
blond to tackle the role of the chisel-jawed, scarf-wearing Fred, while
Gellar has donned the retro lavender dress to play Daphne. (The casting also
seems to confirm everyone's childhood suspicions that Daphne and Fred were
doing more than just solving mysteries together.) The Warner Bros.
live-action spinoff, costarring Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and Linda
Cardellini as Velma, is due out sometime next year.
Prinze is the son of Freddie Prinze Sr., the
actor-comedian who starred in NBC's hit show Chico and the Man from
1974-78, before committing suicide at age 22. Gellar, meanwhile, has been in
the acting biz since age 4, starring on the ABC soap All My Children
before ending up the slaying star of the WB's cult hit.
